Sip & Sketch at the Artisan Asylum in Somerville

Event Description:
Want to practice figure drawing in a relaxed, friendly, non-judgemental atmosphere? Then come to Sip & Sketch, Artisan's Asylum's all-levels figure drawing class, complete with libations! We will first learn to capture figures in short time frames, while our models move rapidly from pose to pose. Then we will move into long-form poses, in order to learn to look more intently and draw in greater detail. The night will finish with a group viewing and discussion of the work created. We will be working with both clothed and nude models.
In order to reward the concept of community, we will be offering reduced admission to those who bring a friend to this event, as well as offering free admission for those who have paid membership for the month of April. If you haven't become a member, this is a great time to join!
Note: We encourage you to BYOB.
Prerequisites:
No prior drawing experience needed.
Materials:
A low-cost kit of materials will be available for purchase at the event. If students prefer to bring their own materials, they will need large-scale newsprint paper and charcoal or conte crayon or charcoal pencils (no hard lead pencils).
Instructor Biography: Jesa Damora
HilljackUntil recently, Jesa Damora’s art focused on enormous drawings, ostensibly about flowers but in fact about the vitality and wildness in nature and in ourselves. Under the pseudonym Belle Wether, she also did enormous drawings of men’s balls which not only raise the question "What do we really experience when we look at things we think we know about?" but also point to the waywardness of the male nude in art these past 150 years. When she lost the use of her dominant arm two years ago, she said, "drat! another ----ing silver lining!" and began a series of wildly colorful, fun abstracts. She has taught art through Prospect Hill Studio, her atelier in Somerville, for five years. Jesa is enormously entertaining to have dinner with. She is married to the Zen priest-poet John Bailes.
Event Time:
