Figure and Portrait Sculpture at Quincy Art Association

Join us for a 6 week in-depth class in sculpting the nude female figure from life in natural clay.
Dan Myers, QAA's award winning sculptor and teacher, will guide all artists at every level in a systematic, hands-on method of creating a likeness of our model.  The course will include gesture and pose selection, armature building, bone and muscle anatomy, details of features, use of specialized tools, encouragement of individual artistic expression, photographs of the leather hard stage, firing in a kiln, patina and mounting for exhibit. At least 40 pages of photos and reference materials will be supplied and a CD of photos of each stage will be available at the end. Class fee is $206 for QAA members (include extra $20 for membership) which includes everything: clay, model fee, use of tools, and firing in a kiln to permanent terracotta. The class will be offered on 6 Wednesday nights, starting Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 7 to 10 pm. Maximum class size is 7. Discount available for US service personnel. Deadline for class registration is Wednesday, April 28...first come, first served. Please send checks to Quincy Art Association, 26 High School Ave, Quincy, MA 02169, ATTN: Figure Sculpture.

Portrait sculpture will begin Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 10 am to 1 pm for 6 Sundays. We will create a life size portrait likeness of our live model (which can be a friend of one of the enrolled artists...model to be paid $10 per hour). The procedure will be hands-on and systematic: armature building, planar head construction, bone and muscle anatomy of the head, choosing a pose and expression, details of sculpting features, individual creativity encouraged (unique expressions for each of the artists is possible). Over 40 pages of reference photos and information will be distributed and a CD of class progress will be available at the end of the course. Class fee is the same as figure sculpture, deadline and address the same but indicate ATTN: Portrait sculpture.
