Painting the Human Head with Tom Ouellette

Clivia
Self Portrait - Tom Ouellette

Painting portraits is a traditional path artists take to become an accomplished painter.  Tom's studio is carefully set up to provide optimum lighting conditions for painting from the model. A controlled palette for flesh is taught along with the four stages of painting. The advantage of this system, particularly for new students, is that the structure of this program keeps them on track. Students know where they are and how to proceed and can 'go back' a step or two without starting over. Their focus is guided and this gives more accurate and faster results. The model will take the same pose for four 3-hr classes.    8 weeks

Tuesday  1:30 - 4:30pm                                           $460
Tuesday 6:00 to 9:00p*                                            $460
Starts Tuesday, June 12, 2012

*Please note that the building is locked at 6pm. Please plan to arrive on time.

Michael Bilotta - Beyond Photography

Sometimes I work with an artists that blows me away.  Michael Bilotta is one of those experiences.  While I have done lots of photo shoots, typically other than minor tweaks, that is the end of the creative process.  Not with Michael.  The photo is the jumping off point for his creative genius.

Michael starts with an idea and the photo is the first step.  Like a beautiful painting starts with a good drawing, Michael's art starts with a good photo.  Utilizing the tools of photoshop, he is able to coax the surreal imagery from his mind and soul to create images that provoke an inner stirring within the viewer.

Often it is said that the digital camera and photo has destroyed photography as an art form.  Take a thousand shots of something and surely there will be one good one in the bunch.  The evolution of technology and how it impacts art can be debated while in the meantime, beautiful works are being created via this medium.

While there is only a sample of the work in this blog post, you can view and follow Michael's work at his website:  http://michaelbilotta.com/

The venue is very spacious with a models stand, some easels and track lighting.  We will be in the gallery at the New Art Center.  Unfortunately, we are limited to dry mediums and watercolor.  No Oils please.  There are easels available but if you own a portable easel, it would be good to bring it just to make sure there are easels go around.

Assuming we get enough participants, we will have a total of 4 models (2 m/f couples).

Please RSVP at the meetup site so I know how many artists to expect:  http://www.meetup.com/NE-artists-models-group/
