Portrait Drawing Class with Dana Levin - Brookline Art Center





Portrait Drawing and Painting: Intensive

Instructor: Dana Levin
Students will learn to draw and paint a portrait, using charcoal, pencil and oils. Students will create a likeness of either a model or a photograph. Charcoal pencil will be used and students will be taught the Renaissance method of drawing, and transfer their drawing to canvas.

Monday - Friday, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Arlington Center for the Arts - Drop-ins are welcome!

Arlington Center for the Arts now accepts drop-ins.  The non-instructed live drawing sessions held on Sundays from 1-4pm and Monday mornings from 9:30 - 12:30pm are open for anyone to drop in for a single class.  The cost is $15/session.  The only request is that you call ahead to make sure there is ample space.

This is a long standing drop-in group of talented artists with a core group who attend regularly. This class will introduce students to rendering the figure three-dimensionally, in both drawing and in clay figure studies.  Class will cover proportion, aspects of anatomy, and working with form and shape spatially.  Moving between 2-D and 3-D methods of rendering will improve drawing skills and assist student’s work in clay studies. Students will have the option to learn casting techniques to preserve their clay studies. For sculpture students of all levels, but prior drawing experience is necessary.

Learn the essential skills required to successfully portray the character of a live model. The 3-day workshop immerses students in a traditional approach to pastel portraiture in ideal north light studio conditions.

Artist and instructor, Melody Phaneuf, will lead students to see and translate the head into pastel. Learn to see the relationships of musculature and facial expression characteristic to the live model.

Workshop will take place March 26, April 2 & 9 from 1:30-4:30 at Fenway Studios, 30 Ipswich St, Boston. Cost of workshop is $275, and includes model fee. Space is limited.
